Feel free to contact me if you are interested in having piano lessons on "Barcarolle" and at my new Yamaha grand piano.
I have degrees/diplomas from Oxford University and from Trinity College. I have many years teaching experience, teaching all ages and abilities and all Grades from beginner to preparing adults for professional music diplomas - both privately and at the City Lit. I have appeared in public concerts both as a soloist and accompanist. Having taught both privately and in schools/colleges across Surrey, I have also acted as Piano/Keyboard co-ordinator for the county music service. In this role I have inspected a large number of piano teachers at work and encountered many different styles of teaching. Doing this work, and particularly for the contact with children it involves, obviously police checks are required, and I maintain CRB clearance.

In addition to preparing students for the standard Associated Board and Trinity/Guildhall practical music exams, I also teach Music Theory and provide support tuition for music GCSE and AS/A2 level music. I also teach routes into improvisation and composition, and have successfully prepared students for the Associated Board Jazz Piano exams, at all grades. I also have run classes in Music Technology covering the basics of midi and audio recording and sequencing. Many people today play on electronic keyboards, which often have many functions and capacities beyond just the note playing. Being familiar with these I have taught electronic keyboard, successfully entering many students into the specialised Trinity/Guildhall electronic keyboard exams.

I have had several young piano composers come to me to help them produce both CDs (mp3s) and professionally prepared scores of their compositions. I offer a service of recording composers piano pieces in real time, and then editing the same to achieve a clean recording to commit to CD. Simultaneously I can prepare the full piano score for printing. I also tutor young composers on how to properly notate their compositions, when they have only played by ear and from memory.
I try to tailor my teaching to the temperament and goals /aspirations of the student. Some students like to have the target of an exam to galvanize their practice, others, quite often adults, prefer to play without artificial external pressure, and flourish better honing their skills on whatever repertoire they feel attracted to. Either way it should be an enjoyable experience, with the essentials of music being equally imparted. I currently have students I took as beginners who are now playing to an advanced level, some of whom have taken no exams, whilst others have progressed through the graded exams systematically.

If you are interested in having lessons, in any of the above aspects of music, on "Barcarolle" at my new Yamaha grand piano (and where you might also enjoy the water views, and maybe glimpse our resident kingfishers..!), please don't hesitate to contact me on the email contact form!
